To do’s
Next Monday night, May 15, if you can, be in Stover Auditorium at Wiscasset Middle High School for voters’ first hand in the next school budget. The School Committee and administrators worked months on it and, in the end, made an offer that asks no more of taxpayers than last year’s did. How’d they do in choosing what to spend where? Your call, starting at 6 p.m. The special town meeting’s outcome on all the numbers goes on to a final vote June 13.
Plus, it’s cool to be in Stover Auditorium at the same time as the man it was named for, School Committee member Eugene Stover. Whether at a graduation or a meeting, getting to see Gene there, with his continued dedication to Wiscasset’s schools, is always an honor.
Next on the list: Enjoy the sun. It made several appearances Tuesday and may again, at some point in the next week. If it does, get out in it: Walk, garden, or play croquet or toss. Move, move, move whenever possible. Or just sit, by the waterfront or on the front steps, saying hello to people and their dogs or trying to spot the first robin of spring, if you haven’t already. Stillness is good, especially without a wind chill factor.
New Year’s resolution restart: What did you plan to do in January that was new or different? What happened? If you’re still on it, congratulations and keep the momentum going. If you need a mulligan, here you go. And spring may offer fewer hurdles.
Last, go through your old emails. This one’s for me. I send myself email reminders on stories and other work; I just fill the subject line with them, usually a few reminders per email. I check email all the time, so I figure I’ll see them later, when I have the time to get those items done. But as more emails pour in, they get covered over, perhaps never to be seen again. Fortunately, things I haven’t done yet occur to me again, so I either get to them then, or write more emails on them. Yes, my phone has a place to put reminders, but email is so handy.
Addendum: If you have a phone that has a reminders section, consider using it.
