Edgecomb Eddy School performs “An American Quilt” for spring concert
Edgecomb Eddy School held its school-wide concert on Friday, June 1. Music teacher Jennifer McIvor and integrated arts teacher Robin MacCready collaborated to create the show, “An American Quilt.” Kindergarten through sixth grade students performed regional songs, dances and playground chants from the Northeast, Southeast, Midwest, Rocky Mountains, Southwest and the Pacific.
Students read poetry at the beginning of each part of the concert, including works from Edna St. Vincent Millay, Maya Angelou, Shel Silverstein, Ted Kooser, Chayle Dikoff, Simon J. Ortiz, Kay Ryan and Langston Hughes. For the final number, all grades gathered to sing, “One Song, Many Voices” by Mark Williams to demonstrate how, although each region represents pieces of a quilt, all are connected and are part of the United States of America.
Sixth graders Henry Boudoin and Alex Murphy were in charge of the multimedia/technical portion of the show. Sixth grader Ryan Clark was in charge of the curtain. The stage crew included fifth graders Aliyah Bowley, Piper Carleton, Catherine Clifford, William Clifford, Edison Edgecomb, Finnegan Gaffney, Emily Gosselin, and Luke Morley. Dean Tegerero, sixth grader, created the cover art for the program.
