Wiscasset is a choice
Events like last week’s art walk and concert and Tuesday’s July Fourth celebration underscore a truth about Maine’s prettiest village. People like it here.
In this week’s pages, we meet a new Wiscasset resident; a former one who still keeps a shop here; and parade-goers with Wiscasset ties or none, but who all wanted to spend their Fourth, or part of it, here.
No one has to visit, or move here, or sell their wares here. It’s a choice – a choice for Wiscasset, when a young woman from Singapore gets a lobster roll at Red’s Eats, or Alna and South Bristol families come to the Wiscasset common for open mic night, or a shopkeeper stays.
Keep doing all you are doing, Wiscasset, with art walks and concerts and parades and veterans’ flag-raisings and strawberry festivals and Summerfests, and river races and sunrise stops for relay races. The winter events are as warm at heart as the warm-weather ones, but the tourist season has the biggest audiences for showcasing the waterfront and everything south to the Woolwich line.
Enjoy it all and share it with the people who choose to spend time and money here from other towns, states and nations. For an hour or a lifetime, we are one in choosing Wiscasset.
