Alden L. Wilson
Alden L. “Denny” Wilson, 82, of Boothbay passed away unexpectedly at his home on July 17, 2023. He was born on Sept. 25, 1940 in Providence, Rhode Island to parents Alden Hazard Wilson and Phebe Lewis Wilson. Denny grew up in Wickford, Rhode Island with brother, Harry, and sister, Priscilla.
Denny attended local schools in Rhode Island and graduated from Moses Brown School in 1959. He then went on to University of Rhode Isand and graduated in 1965 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. At URI, he was active in Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. Alden was married to his lovely wife, Susan, in 1978. The ceremony was held at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Portsmouth, Rhode Island.
He was a member of the Rhode Island National Guard, attaining the rank of Specialist 5th Class from 1962-1968. His career spanned 35 years with Starkweather & Shepley Insurance Brokerage in East Providence, RI. He obtained CPCU Designation in Insurance and retired in 2002. He was a member of the Portsmouth, RI Rotary from 1991-2002, as well as past president. Denny belonged to the Newport Ski Club where he also served as past president.
Denny loved to ski. Mostly in Vermont, but made many trips to Colorado as well. Sue had been injured in a fall and became paralyzed, and in 1987 they went to Aspen, CO to learn how to ski again. She was eventually able to live a more normal life after 14 years in a wheelchair.
Denny and Sue moved to Boothbay after Denny’s retirement. He was active at the Boothbay Railway Village Museum and volunteered to drive for FISH (Friends In Service Helping) and helped out with the woodchucks.
He was a kind and generous soul who will be missed by all who were privileged enough to know him.
Denny is survived by his wife, Susan; his two sons, Robert and wife Catrina of Wilmington, North Carolina, and Brian and wife Julie of Colorado Springs, Colorado; as well as two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life for Denny will be held on Saturday, Aug. 26 at 2 p.m. at St. Columba’s Episcopal Church in Boothbay Harbor.
