Elaine Lerner
Elaine (Lyn) Lerner of Merion Station, Pennsylvania passed away peacefully at home on Sept. 27, 2022 surrounded by her loving family.
Lyn was born on May 31, 1933, in Philadelphia to Percy and Anna Gomberg. She attended Upper Darby High School and West Chester University, where she completed an accelerated bachelor's degree program in primary education. Her training led her to teach in the Philadelphia public schools for several years.
Upon graduation, she married her high school sweetheart, Daniel Lerner; the two celebrated their 68th anniversary shortly before her death. Before starting a family, the couple explored Europe for eight months in 1957, taking them on many adventures and sparking a lifelong interest in travel.
Following their return, Lyn dedicated herself to homemaking and being mother to their three children. Dan and Lyn enjoyed traveling to many locations around the world, including a memorable trip on the Concorde. Lyn was an avid gardener who cultivated orchids and loved the beauty of flowers.
As summer residents of Boothbay Harbor, Maine, she and Dan received great pleasure from being members and supporters of Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens in Boothbay. Their generosity over the past 15 years led to the Garden's decisions to name the Lerner Garden of the Five Senses and the Lyn and Daniel Lerner Visitor Center for them. They were also recognized with the naming of the Daniel and Lyn Lerner Atrium at FoundCare Medical Center in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Lyn is survived by her husband, Daniel; her children, Ann Poole (Dirk), Paul D. Lerner (Stephen Reis) and Julie Lerner; and grandchildren Savanna Poole and Marina Poole.
Services are private. Contributions in Lyn's memory may be made to Planned Parenthood of Southeastern Pennsylvania, plannedparenthood.org. www.levinefuneral.com
