Fire in Boothbay Tuesday morning
Firefighters were called to a structure fire at 12 Matthews Road, off Beath Road, in Boothbay Tuesday shortly after 5 a.m. Firefighters from Boothbay, Boothbay Harbor, Southport and Edgecomb responded. It is believed that everyone exited the burning trailer safely and went to a neighbor’s house as the firefighters arrived.
Shortly after 7 a.m., Boothbay Fire Chief Dick Spofford confirmed that the five people in the house at the time of the fire did get out safely and the Red Cross assisted in setting up the family in a nearby hotel. Spofford said a total of eight people lived in the trailer, which was destroyed, but three were away.
Two or three animals perished in the fire, said Spofford, but at least one cat survived.
Spofford said the state fire marshal’s office has been called to determine the cause of the fire.
