Flowers, a breeze and other things
Some of the nicest bouquets have a mix of flowers and, since this was a super busy week with graduation and a lot of other, mostly good news, I offer just a spring mix of mentions:
Wiscasset Middle High School's website announced Tuesday, the baseball and softball teams have won Maine Principals Association's sportsmanship banners. That makes five MPA sportsmanship banners this year, Assistant Principal Warren Cossette states in the post.
Thanks to the students and those who guided them. Pride isn't just earned on the scoreboard.
Speaking of pride, one of the highlights of graduation was Principal Charles Lomonte's answering yes to Matt Chapman's and Vanessa Dunn's musical question in the Taylor Hicks song "Do I Make You Proud." That reaction and Lomonte's other remarks on stage that night about students and staff sounded like they came from someone happy where he is.
Maybe he will be able to stick around for years to come. Each principal the school has had in recent years has brought something different to the table, which can be good for an organization. But some constancy could also be good.
Maybe these sunny days we're having will stick around, too. They're finally becoming the norm rather than the exception they've been this spring. And finally, something the past winter and spring had me thinking would never be again, a cool breeze can bring a sigh instead of a shudder.
Week's positive parting thought: The outpouring of well-wishers for David Ortiz in his recovery at a Boston hospital, after he was shot while in the Dominican Republic, is Red Sox nation at its loyal best.
