How to have a good weekend
Hit Wiscasset’s Winterfest this Friday night and Saturday day, Feb. 1 and 2, at Wiscasset Community Center for some indoor and a lot of outdoor fun. If we all have to endure winter's frigid side, we may as well enjoy the season's better side, too – its recreation and sparkling beauty.
This week’s cold should help the snow stick around for this longtime local tradition, and a lot of people, organizations and businesses have put time and donations into it.
The rest is up to you. At press time, the National Weather Service was forecasting Saturday as sunny with a high near 22F. So bundle up, and show up.
If you can, stop next door to WCC on Gardiner Road, to Wiscasset Middle High School. Inside Stover Auditorium at 2:30 p.m. Saturday is the boys varsity basketball team's last home game of the season. The school teams were playoff-free this Mountain Valley Conference hoops season. But they stayed with it. Show your Wiscasset pride and support for their and the coaches' efforts. Fill the bleachers!
Then kick back Sunday, in front of the television: It's Super Bowl time and hopefully another Patriots win is at hand. The game and hopefully the commercials and halftime show will be fun to watch. Bostonherald.com reported 35,000 people turned out for a sendoff rally at Gillette Stadium this week. New England is excited for Sunday. Let the dynasty continue and, win or lose, let the Patriots pride roll on.
Week's positive thought: February is the last full month of winter, and it's the shortest month!
