Many of Trump’s former cabinet officers, top staffers, say he is not fit to serve
Dear Editor:
What do former Vice President Mike Pence, former Secretary of Defense James Mattis, former National Security Advisors John Bolton and H.R. McMaster, former Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, former White House Chief of Staff John Kelly, and former Attorney General William Barr, have in common:
They all are Republicans who served in President Trump’s cabinet who now have distanced themselves from him. Speaking to CNN in July, Bolton said he thinks “in private, honest conversations, almost all of Trump’s cabinet members and other senior advisers would agree that Trump is not fit to be president.”
Several of Trump’s former top staff officials have made clear they will not vote for him. They include former White House Communications Director Anthony Scaramucci, former Chief of Staff to the Department of Homeland Security Miles Taylor, and Cassidy Hutchinson, top aide to former Chief of Staff Mark Meadows.
They give as reasons his erratic leadership style, his self absorption, the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol and the ongoing legal investigations into his conduct while president.
The fact that so many of Trump’s cabinet and staff have now turned against him, after having worked closely with him, should be a wake up call to every American.
If so many of those who had top jobs in his administration and worked closely with him on domestic and foreign policy say he is not fit for a second term, we should listen.
These are loyal Republicans who have turned against the Republican nominee, and, some are considering voting for Biden.
