Outgoing Probate Judge Thomas Berry was treated to a surprise retirement party on Nov. 9, including lunch and cake and punch at the Lincoln County Courthouse. About 50 people attended.
Berry had been probate Judge in Lincoln County since 1988, presiding over adoptions, wills and estates, guardianships, and name changes. He decided not to run for reelection this year.
William Avantaggio was unopposed in the Democratic caucus and unopposed for the office on Nov. 8. He will take over in January.
It was decided to hold the party immediately after the election so it would not interfere with holiday events and closures, according to Deb Tibbetts of the Probate Office.
