Alzheimer’s, dementia support group to begin in Boothbay Harbor
Community members who are caring for loved ones with Alzheimer’s disease or dementia are invited to join a support group in Boothbay Harbor beginning on Wednesday, April 3, at 1 p.m. The group will continue to meet at this time on the first Wednesday of every month.
The support group will be facilitated by Courtney Stover, LincolnHealth occupational therapist. Caregivers are welcome to bring their loved ones to join a separate activity group, which will include exercises for the body and the brain, led by Debby Hidu, occupational therapy assistant.
“We want to provide a safe, confidential and supportive environment for caregivers where they can openly ask questions, share concerns, and find support” commented Stover. “This allows them to connect with others who may be going through similar daily struggles, and learn from their experiences.”
This support group is starting in response to community members expressing interest in having such a group on the Boothbay peninsula. LincolnHealth currently offers a support group for those caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s disease or dementia in Damariscotta. The Damariscotta group meets at Chase Point Assisted Living the first Thursday of every month at 10 a.m.
The Boothbay Harbor group will gather in the Wellness and Rehabilitation Department located at 6 St. Andrews Lane, Boothbay Harbor.
