Falls prevention program begins Oct. 17
Improve your balance and reduce your risk of falling at LincolnHealth’s falls prevention program, “Balancing Act.” This free program will be held at the Wellness and Rehabilitation Department on the LincolnHealth-St. Andrews Campus in Boothbay Harbor. The program has been reformatted to cover the material in two sessions. Classes will take place on Thursday, Oct. 17 and Thursday, Oct. 24 from 10:30 a.m. to noon.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, falls are the leading cause of fatal and non-fatal injuries among persons aged 65 years and older. Balancing Act program instructors will teach participants specific exercises which target balance, progressing from easy to challenging. They will also provide information on home safety, local resources for staying active and helpful tips on fall prevention, and.
Past Balancing Act participants have described the program as “very informative,” “the best they have taken,” and having “great presentations and camaraderie.”
Balancing Act will be led by physical therapist Heather Brewer and certified occupational therapy assistant Deborah Hidu.
Space is limited. Those who are interested in participating are encouraged to register by Friday, Oct. 11.
