Cheers to everyone involved in spreading cheer before the holidays in the Boothbay and Wiscasset regions. The events over the past weekend brought out residents and visitors to the towns to celebrate and to enjoy what the regions offer for shopping, dining and more. This can’t be done without planning and getting people to help.

Cheers to those involved with setting up a fund for Gayle and Kelo Pinkham, who lost their Barters Island home to fire in late November. Next is not a jeer, but perhaps just a suggestion: Why can’t we coordinate and hold the Boothbay Lights fireworks and the Harbor Lights Lighted Boat Parade on the same night? It makes sense to me. I will have to ask those in charge.

Cheers to our contributing photographer Michael Leonard. He submits great photos of night events that we couldn’t come close to matching, especially the fireworks displays, the Lighted Boat Parade, Gardens Aglow and others. We heard from CMBG that many people appreciated the photography lessons he gave during Community Night on Dec. 4.

Cheers to the town of Edgecomb for holding a forum Dec. 7 to discuss issues that the small town faces. Having many voices sometimes helps prompt ideas for solving problems.

Cheers to Stephen Barndollar and JSJ Holdings who want to develop the former Wiscasset Primary School property. The property is a prime spot for some kind of housing and/or businesses. Let’s hope those in charge can work something out before it sits vacant for more years.
