Cheers and jeers
Cheers to the area public works crews for their fine job of clearing the snow and ice off the roads after the several nuisance storms we've had so far this month. Again, as a reminder, motorists, please drive slower when it's slippery.
Cheers to the Y-Arts group – 23 performers, director Emily Mirabile and several chaperones – who traveled to Atlanta, Georgia this past weekend for a 15-minute performance and for bringing home a trophy and individual honors. The weeks of practicing paid off and we salute you for your dedication.
I know it is only a concept and it is only my opinion, but jeers to anyone who wants a curved footbridge in Boothbay Harbor. It just doesn’t seem like the right thing to do. If you agree with me, let the selectmen know.
Cheers to Corey Tibbetts who gave it his best shot at the open call for “The Voice” television program in Nashville over the weekend. In his Facebook post, he admitted to getting nervous (who wouldn't) and was a bit surprised at being asked to sing “the best part” of his song for 30 to 45 seconds. We still appreciate what you do for the community, Corey.
Cheers to the Friends of Wiscasset Village who are working on developing a new festival, "Schoonerfest," celebrating the Luther Little and Hesper, the well-known ships that once graced the Sheepscot River near the Wiscasset waterfront. Hey, Windjammer Days started with an idea and now it’s over 50 years old. Good luck on developing your plans.
Jeers to the person/people behind the email phishing scam involving Wiscasset’s First Congregational Church. Find a real job and quit trying to steal people's money.
Speaking of work ... keep pushing toward the tournaments, Seahawks! You've given your fans a fine season, no matter the outcome in Augusta.
