Thank you election volunteers
Dear Editor:
I am writing this letter the week before Election Day. Of course, I don’t know what the outcome of the election will be. What I do know is that we Democrats in Lincoln County had the honor of supporting a wonderful group of candidates. Each and every one of them is a hardworking, community-minded person who genuinely cares about the people they would represent. They have run positive, substantive, and safety-conscious campaigns in the midst of a pandemic. I fervently hope the voters of Lincoln County have elected them. You, reading this, know the outcome.
We called our 2020 campaign “Connecting for Change” because we wanted to encourage full participation in the election. To that end, an amazing group of volunteers came together and put in thousands of hours in a variety of ways to make those connections.
Here are some things our volunteers did: texted and called more than 3,000 voters in June and July; parked cars and greeted attendees at our Drive In for Democracy in August; wrote notes on 6,637 postcards and letters to Lincoln County voters during September and October; placed door hangers on 2,137 Lincoln County voters’ front doors in October; joined five “Spirit of Democracy” rallies around Lincoln County in September and October; created 80 hand-painted signs and built and placed signs (in addition to the hundreds of citizens who stopped by to get a sign for their front yard) around Lincoln County during the spring, summer, and fall. All this doesn’t include volunteer work many did for specific campaigns.
There is camaraderie and joy in engaging in activities that you feel will help your country; while working you envision the change your work is contributing to. I want to publicly thank every person who gave time and energy to the Democratic campaign (some of whom were not actually Democrats, but independents, Greens, and Republicans). You created a wonderful community in the midst of challenging times.
