I can see it, can you?

The light at the end of the COVID-19 tunnel remains distant for all who would like a normal Midcoast summer and normal town meetings and more this spring, but it grows brighter by the week, somewhat by the numbers, and greatly by the vaccines.

Whether you have had one shot or two; none yet, but you are in line; or you do not intend to go near it until the picture of any potential vaccine complications and effectiveness on the virus and its variants is sharper still, the vaccines and vaccinations, regardless, are progress. So dare to dream, with caution.

Think of your favorite local event, annual or more frequent – one you did not get to enjoy last year; it could happen, and we should hold out hope, nay – plan, as long as we keep flexible and can live with another less fun summer if precautions call for it.

Still lamenting, as I am, Punxsutawney Phil’s Groundhog Day prediction of six more weeks of winter, and now its accuracy, thus far? Think ahead, to strawberries in Wiscasset and windjammers in Boothbay Harbor, and hope! But keep your mask on, maybe two. And maybe Zoom will go back to being a public television show from our youth. And, even if in masks, we could enjoy a musical in person or a Fourth of July parade. We shall see.
