Jane Heidenreich
Jane (Hess) Heidenreich of Exeter, New Hampshire passed away peacefully on Oct. 27, 2022.
Jane was born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania on Jan. 24, 1927 to Marian (Hollinger) Hess and Edgar G. Hess. She was pre-deceased by her husband of 70 years, Theodore E Heidenreich Jr. She and Ted raised their family in Scituate, Massachusetts. Together, they founded Packaging Products Corporation of New Bedford, Massachusetts. Their business grew and stayed in the family for 58 years.
Their homes were never far from the ocean, and their love of the sea and boating found them cruising the coast of New England and Florida whenever they could. With her husband, Jane lived in Scituate for 32 years. They had three children and were members of the First Trinitarian Congregational Church, the Scituate Harbor Yacht Club and the Satuit Boat Club. Jane was also an active member of the Scituate Garden Club, and played tennis year round. In their neighborhood and through their activities, they made life-long friends that they cherished long after leaving Massachusetts.
They next moved to Sanibel Island, Florida where they enjoyed hosting their children, grandchildren and friends. They were members of the Sanibel Congregational Church and the Captiva Yacht Club. Jane’s favorite activities with her grandchildren were playing with them at the beach and letting them win at Go Fish and the Candy Land game.
Summers were spent in Boothbay Harbor, Maine where life similarly centered on boats, church and visits with friends, relatives, and neighbors.
In 2014, Jane and Ted moved from Florida to Exeter in order to be closer to their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Jane is survived by three children and their spouses, Marion (Bruce) Waters of Hanover, New Hampshire; Ted (Holly) Heidenreich of New Harbor, Maine; and Beth (Michael) Gregg of Woolwich, Maine. Nothing could make Jane smile more than talking about her six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren-Britta (Waters) and Russell Pemberton of New Canaan, Connecticut, parents of Teddy and Hess Pemberton; Morgan and Laurel Waters of Richmond, Vermont, parents of Nelle Waters; Tedra (Heidenreich) and Wayne Leonard of Portland, Maine, parents of Saylor Leonard; Gretta (Heidenreich) and Kevin Keubert of Eagle, Colorado; Braeden and Patty Gregg of Durham, Maine, parents of Julian Gregg; and Kim Gregg of Peaks Island, Maine. Jane was also predeceased by her grandson-in-law, Taurin McGrath, whom she loved very much. Shortly before she passed, Jane was thrilled to learn of granddaughter Kim’s engagement to Andrew Deweever.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Jane and Ted Heidenreich Scholarship Fund (BRSAF, P.O. Box 293, Boothbay Harbor, ME 04538) for Boothbay area students or the Spencer Scholarship Fund (C/O Riverwoods, 7 Riverwoods Drive, Exeter, NH 03883) for advanced education for nurses.
A memorial service will take place next year in Boothbay Harbor.
