Courtney G. Haggett
Courtney Gilbert Haggett, 80, of South Berwick, died Nov. 3, 2022. He was born in Damariscotta, Maine on March 17, 1942 to Gilbert Mather and Florence Barlow Haggett and named for his great-grandfather Courtney Gilbert. He attended local schools and graduated from Boothbay Region High School in 1960. He was active in many school organizations as well as working for the YMCA summer camp program. Free time would find him always on the water enjoying the two boats that he and his father built. A special boating moment was watching the filming of the movie "Carousel."
After graduation came a year at the University of Maine at Orono, two years at Washington State Teachers College in Machias, two years at Gorham State College and eventually a master’s degree in elementary education.
In 1967 he met his wife-to-be Janet Ellen O'Sullivan and in 1969 welcomed their daughter Candace Lynne into the family, followed by a son Christian Mather in 1972.
He taught middle school in SAD #35 for 33 years, retiring in 1998. While teaching he also worked for what eventually became the Maine Tourism Association for 50 years of service, welcoming visitors to Maine.
He was predeceased by his dad Gilbert (1988), mom Florence (2018), brother Richard (2019) and his wife Janet in 2007 after a wonderful 39 years of marriage and many miles of motor home travels.
In 2011 he married Anne Sutherland Rollins and a new chapter began for both of them with a blended family of five children, nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Sadly, his wife Anne passed away in May of 2019.
He is survived by his children Candace of South Berwick, Maine, granddaughter Michaela and her partner Aviv of Seattle, Washington; Christian and his wife Dee of Coal City, Indiana, and grandsons Daniel and fiancee Karisa, Andrew and wife Cayla, and River, as well as great-grandchildren Aleeah, Weston and Mather.
He is also survived by his sister-in-law Jeannette of Wells, nephew David, and nieces Patricia and Nancy of Connecticut, a cousin Peggy of Boothbay Harbor and a cousin Ronald and wife Ann of New Hampshire, as well as children and grandchildren of Anne's family.
Thank you lord for a long journey of lifetime memories with family and friends and all the miles of travel with Family Motor Home Assoc. and Maine Wheels.
A memorial service for Courtney will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 13, at the Federated Church of South Berwick, 150 Main St, South Berwick, ME 03908
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to New England Cancer Specialists and First Parish Federated Church of South Berwick, Maine. Care of the Haggett Family has been entrusted to the J.S. Pelkey and Son Funeral Home.
