Theodore H. Wacholtz
Theodore Hubert “Ted” Wacholtz died Dec. 25, 2022 at Maine General Hospital in Augusta, Maine.
He was a disabled veteran who suffered many maladies, including a rare disease called” Stiff Person Syndrome.”
Ted was born Feb. 27, 1949 in Albert Lea, Minnesota to Hubert and Marie (Henning) Wacholtz. He was a graduate of Pacelli High School, Austin, Minnesota, excelling in football, wrestling and track. Ted went on to serve his country in the U.S. Air Force for four years, stationed in Goose Bay, Labrador and in Kyoto, Japan. Afterwards, he earned a bachelor’s degree in recreational therapy from George Williams College. Ted was employed by Delta Airlines in Chicago; and then as a national service officer for the V.A. based out of Togus, Maine; he was a travel agent for Grand Circle Travel; and was a YMCA aquatics director in Boston. Most recently, Ted was the administrative assistant for Prevention Partners Inc, and a sports official for the Maine Principal’s Association. He was umpiring right up until June 2022. Ted was also a CPR and First Aid instructor. He volunteered for the Red Cross during the Boston Marathon, and at Homeless Veterans events.
On Nov. 29, 2004 Ted married Linda Morrison Nelson (Rosen) in Boothbay, Maine. They enjoyed walking with their Sheltie, Tia; traveling; going to the movies; and hosting foreign students and friends. Ted was passionate about bowling; he was a bowling instructor and shot several 300s himself. He loved music and enjoyed singing barbershop harmony with the Downeasters, when they were based in Bath at the Chocolate Church. Some of Ted’s favorites were the song the “Bohemian Rhaspsody” by Queen; the movies the “Titanic” and “Dirty Dancing;” and he loved French vanilla ice cream! Ted had been active in the Knights of Columbus in Boston and the American Legion. He provided eldercare for his late mother-in-law, Emma Lou Morrison in Boothbay, and for patients V.A. facilities.
Ted left behind a large family. He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Linda of Boothbay, Maine; siblings: William (Cindy) of Cherry Creek, New York; Tom (Mavis) of Rochester, Minnesota; Jan (Pat) Zupon of Becker, Minnesota; and Veronica (Larry) Haselius of Big Lake, Minnesota; and sister-in law, Violet Wacholtz of Bloomington, Minnesota. Children: Jennifer Zupon of Gilbert, Arizona; Christopher Zupon of Belvidere, Illinois; T J Wacholtz (Sierra Weeks) of Round Rock, Texas; and Peter and Caroline of Manchester, New Hampshire. Stepchildren: Joseph Beckira of Brockton, Massachusetts; Andrew Rosen of Boothbay; grandchildren: Crystal, Amber, Ryan, Brandon Zupon; and Lynden Wacholtz; and a great-grandson, Jameson.
Ted was preceded by his parents, two brothers Robert and Richard of Minnesota and pet sheltie, Tia.
