This week at the Harbor Theater
“The Fabelmans” - (PG13; 2 hours, 31 minutes) - Nominated for 7 Academy Awards! A deeply personal portrait of 20th-century American childhood. It is a coming-of-age story about a young man’s discovery of a shattering family secret and an exploration of the power of movies to help us see the truth about each other and ourselves. Inspired by Spielberg’s own childhood, “The Fabelmans” was written by Spielberg and Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Tony Kushner (Angels in America, Caroline, or Change). Final shows at 7 p.m Wednesday, Feb. 1 and Thursday, Feb. 2.
“The Fabelmans is beautiful, involving, often spellbinding. Spielberg has now demonstrated that he can look inward, as well as outward, and still command every frame.” - Max Weiss, Time Magazine
“Charade” – Classic Film Series – Introduction by Jon Cavellero Feb. 9 show only - (1963: PG; 1 hour, 53 minutes) - Is anyone really who they seem to be? After Regina Lampert (Audrey Hepburn) falls for the dashing Peter Joshua (Cary Grant) on a skiing holiday in the French Alps. Upon her return to Paris, she discovers her husband has been murdered. Soon, she and Peter are giving chase to three of her late husband's World War II cronies who are after the $250k the quartet stole while behind enemy lines. But why does Peter keep changing his name? Two showings at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9 and Saturday, Feb. 11.
“80 For Brady” – (PG-13) – “80 For Brady” takes us back to 2017 and introduces the four main protagonists played by Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, Rita Moreno and Sally Field. The quartet of friends are having a blast watching the latest Patriots game at home, but Tomlin's character suggests that they should do something fun and spontaneous, eventually recommending that they should go to the Super Bowl. The only problem is, they don't have tickets for the most famous, sought-after sporting event in the US, so getting in is going to be more than a challenge. Thus begins their quest to get into Super Bowl LI, be it legitimately or not. Joining them in a number of major cameo appearances seen in the trailer, include Chef Guy Fieri, former New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski, and the one and only Tom Brady! Plays at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3; Saturday, Feb. 4; Wednesday, Feb. 8; Thursday, Feb. 9; and Sunday, Feb. 5 at 2 p.m.
“This movie’s dazzle is all about the chemistry of its powerhouse quartet and the potential for comic sparks, and on that front, the starry huddle of Lily Tomlin, Jane Fonda, Rita Moreno and Sally Field delivers.” - Sheri Linden, The Hollywood Reporter
Coming soon: The Composer Series’ “In Search of Haydn” – (102 minuntes) - In this eagerly-awaited documentary, Phil Grabsky’s biographical account of Haydn’s life is a visual and aural extravaganza, including breath-taking performances by some of the world’s most celebrated musicians. Joseph Haydn (1732-1809) was one of the greatest musical innovators. Mozart and Beethoven greatly looked up to him as an inspiration and yet today in concert halls he is perhaps too often overshadowed in favor of his younger contemporaries
Covid policy: The CDC still recommends wearing masks indoors around a crowd. Our all-fresh-air ventilation system, Merv-13 filters and thorough sanitation protocols offer a comfortable and safe atmosphere in which to enjoy the film. Please choose your seat with social distancing in mind.
