School budget and petty vengeance
Dear Editor:
I have recently read an editorial published by the Wiscasset School Department chairman and frankly I was taken back with his comments. If you haven’t gotten a chance to read it please do.
What I’ve gathered from his editorial:
It’s very easy for the chair to claim to have heard rumors from a “group” and make up his own opinion on what he “suspects” the motive is with no credibility or facts to back up his petty vengeance remark.
I could easily claim to have heard rumors of a group that is steamrolling their agenda with no regard for public or teacher input. Perhaps because individuals are power hungry, under qualified and are unsure about their function. But that’s all hearsay and “rumors” unless facts are provided.
I feel it is unprofessional for an elected official with so much self proclaimed power and persuasion to make a statement criticizing this group he speaks of based on rumors. Is it to further push his agenda while trying to discredit another group with no actual knowledge of what the group’s intentions are?
I agree with his statement about supporting the children and staff 100%. However, with parents and teachers’ emails and remarks being ignored, it’s hard for me to read his article and not see the irony.
Don’t vote no on the budget just to vote no. Dig into the budget and see how almost 11 million dollars is being spent. Ask questions! Once you start digging you will have more questions than answers.
