Route One, Damariscotta crash claims Boothbay man
A Boothbay man, Shannon Gilbert, 76, was killed in a crash on Route One in Damariscotta on Monday, Nov. 7. The crash occurred at 9:45 a.m. at the intersection of Route One and Business Route One, near N.C. Hunt Lumber, just south of Nobleboro.
Damariscotta Police Chief Ronald Young reported that Gilbert was driving a GMC 1500 pickup southbound on Route One at the intersection, and the other driver, Jason Spear, 45, of Rockport, was driving a Peterbilt tractor trailer northbound on Route One. Gilbert‘s vehicle rolled over into the median between Business Route One and the state highway. Spear’s truck was moved onto a local driveway after the crash. Spear was not seriously injured.
Young said the accident was being reconstructed by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department. Maine State Police Commercial Vehicle Division is also investigating due to the commercial vehicle involvement.
The Damariscotta police and fire departments and CLC Ambulance responded. Waldoboro public safety personnel assisted with traffic control.
