Fireworks safety tips
The Public Safety Advisory Council, along with the Wiscasset fire, EMS and police chiefs, would like to remind everyone about firework safety. Below are key safety tips from Fire Chief T.J. Merry.
- Abide by all local laws and ordinances regarding the use of fireworks
- ONLY adults should be setting off fireworks
- Make sure to have enough space to safely shoot off fireworks
- Light one firework off at a time, DO NOT tie them together
- Make sure to always place firework on a level surface to avoid it from tipping over
- Always wet down spent fireworks when completing your display
Following these few safety tips will help ensure you and your audience a safe and fun experience with fireworks!
Wiscasset has a town ordinance on fireworks and the restricted use of them. Go to http://wiscasset.org/resources and click on Town of Wiscasset Ordinances. The fireworks ordinance is located under section 12.
