Cause unknown in Wiscasset home fire
Fire destroyed a log cabin home in Wiscasset on Wednesday, June 28. The fire at 313 Bradford Road was reported around 1:15 p.m., a Lincoln County Communications dispatcher said.
The owner was Dan Colby, according to Wiscasset Police Chief Jeff Lange.
The home was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived; no one was home, Lange said. An explosion – believed to be from stored ammunition – was reported before the fire started, Lange said.
No injuries were reported. Colby is being assisted by the Red Cross.
The cause of the fire will remain undetermined owing to the amount of damage involved, Sgt. Joel Davis of the State Fire Marshal’s office said.
While firefighters were working the scene, the cabin’s roof collapsed. Fire Chief T.J. Merry said the structure is a total loss.
Owing to multiple hoses crossing the road during the fire, Bradford Road was closed in both directions for about two hours. Wiscasset, Alna, Dresden and Woolwich were among the agencies who responded. Newcastle manned the station during the fire, according to Merry.
