Sheriff’s Office warns of possible phone scam
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office has been advised of a possible scam attempt occurring over this past weekend. On Sunday, March 18, at about 10:15 a.m., a Bristol resident received a call from a number with the Caller ID showing ”Colby & Gale.” The caller told the resident they had won a contest. The resident wisely hung up immediately.
The Sheriff’s Office has been in contact with Colby & Gale and have been assured the business is not running any contests. Anyone who have received calls of this type and/or responded to them, is asked to report these incidents to your local law enforcement agency.
Sheriff Todd Brackett is warning citizens to be wary of such calls and to be aware you cannot always trust what is shown on your Caller ID. This information can be faked and could show the name of any person or business.
Citizens are encouraged to report any suspicious calls and always use common sense when dealing with unsolicited offers. You should never give out personal or financial information if you are uncertain who you are talking to.
