In January, Lincoln County Sheriff's Department will expand its coverage in Boothbay Harbor from 20 hours per week to 40. On Dec. 17, county commissioners voted, 3-0, to extend the sheriff's department coverage beginning Jan. 23 until May 23 to coincide with two Boothbay Harbor police officers' attendance at Maine Criminal Justice Academy. 

If Wiscasset tuitioned out its high schoolers, their and younger students' bussing would have "a lot of moving parts" to figure in, Transportation and Maintenance Director John Merry said Dec. 16. Merry, longtime holder of the job, was fielding questions from Wiscasset's future of the schools committee.

As part of International Education Week (IEW), Yashaswini Dikonda instructed American history class on the unique historic, cultural and linguistic character of India. Dikonda is an exchange student, spending a year with Wiscasset Middle High School. Di kinda lives in Annaram Shareef, state of Telangaha, India. 

It was a day of goodbyes at the Dec. 17 Lincoln County Commissioners meeting. It was the final meeting for two long-serving commissioners, Hamilton Meserve of Southport and Mary Trescot of Newcastle, who finish their third four-year terms this month. Both decided against seeking fourth terms.

Wiscasset Town Manager Dennis Simmons told selectmen Dec. 17, he expects to get them a draft 2025-26 budget by Thursday, Feb. 6. The board set budget talks for Tuesday, Feb. 11, Tuesday, Feb. 25 and Wednesday, March 5, all at 6 p.m. at the town office. 

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office responded to 247 calls for service for the period of Dec. 10 to Dec. 17. Year to date, LCSO has responded to 14,662 calls for service.
